James and Stacy Papavasiliou were born in Greece and arrived in America in 1960. With a long family line of restaurateurs, it did not take long to establish the It’s Greek to Me name throughout Northern Jersey!

It all started in 1986 when James and Stacy, together with their mother Ero Papavasiliou, opened their first restaurant in Cliffside Park. Ero’s home recipes made it an immediate success! She used recipes that were handed down from grandmother to grandmother, and that she used to make at home. Not only are the Mediterranean dishes very authentic and healthy, but the ingredients are put together with a fresh and simple preparation. Ero Papavasiliou still makes daily stops at the restaurants to sample the food in the kitchen, making sure it is the way it should be.
In 2002, Stacy’s son, Anthony, joined the It’s Greek to Me family. With Anthony overseeing operations, they now operate nine restaurants. They have also franchised the name and are looking to expand.
Each restaurant is friendly, has a comfortable atmosphere, and sparks a desire for Greek food and specialties. The sunny Greek Island décor is the restaurant’s signature and provides a cheerful atmosphere for an informal and moderately priced lunch or dinner.
With such success, surely the Greek God of Food must be smiling down from Mount Olympus on the Papavasiliou clan!

Excellent pizzas and fried zucchini balls. Food arrived on time by a very friendly delivery guy. Portions are on the modest side.

The quality I get is always outstanding. The gyro is perfectly seasoned and the tzaziki (sp?) sauce is lovely. The only problem is the consistency. One time we ordered a gyro platter that was supposed to come with fries, and it didn't...and the last time we ordered a platter, it came with one pita cut into 4 pieces (instead of 2 or 3, forgot what they "normally" come with), as if that was supposed to fool us? Oh well, can't help but love the food here.

very little food + it took 1 hour to get to us. while on their site it said 15-30 minutes definitely needs the extra sauce for $1.75 as they give you a very tiny container.

Decent serving of gyro, but not enough pita. Took over an hour to deliver.
