John’s Shanghai, a standout amongst other Chinese establishments dotted throughout Midtown, has been serving delicious Shanghai-style specialties for the past eight years.

The success of John’s Shanghai might have something to do with the Chef/Partner, simply known as Mr. Yuen, who has been working the stoves of the best Chinese restaurants in New York for the past twenty-five years. Or it could be the Dim Sum chef, who prepares the juicy buns and dumplings offered daily, who has thirty years of experience under her apron.
Whatever the reason, orders of Triple Fresh Pepper Chicken and Crispy Tofu seem to fly out of this enclave by the hundreds so they must be doing something right. Whether it’s catering for twenty or two hundred, a late Sunday morning breakfast of Dim Sum or a steaming dish of Shanghai Triple Delight with tender chicken, jumbo shrimp and beef sautéed with mixed vegetables in a house special sauce, you simply cannot go wrong at John's Shanghai.

Fast delivery, but it's only half a block from where I work. The beef with brocolli lunch combo is good but the crab rangoon apetizer I ordered was disgusting.

Amazing portions; great flavorful food; beef can be a bit more tender, but overall the chicken and shrimp are excellent; fast delivery; reasonable prices

Decent Chinese food delivery. Slightly more expensive for the portions you get elsewhere, but that's on par for midtown prices.

I get the beef pan fried noodle (YUMMY!) and it is the best one I have had north of C-town. I don't order anything else, so I cannot comment on their other dishes. The delivery is prompt and the food is always so, so tasty!

The fried rice here is delicious. Highly recommend the beef fried rice. Reasonably priced too. The steamed buns are no comparison to Joe Shanghai but definitely 2nd in line compared to all the other ones I've tried. Plus they give you 8 rather than the 6 other places typically give. Deliveries are also pretty fast. This place is definitely becoming a staple for me for Chinese food. Very authentic.

Pork Steamed Juice Bun was hot when delivered but not of the quality I expected for $7.95. Not as flavorful as it should be and full of melted pork fat.

The food had a smoky taste, as though it had been cooked in a burnt pan, or a pan that had remnants of burnt food in it. The vegetable dish was passible, but the lo mein was inedible -- we threw the whole thing out. This extremely poor food was, however, delivered promptly.

Overpriced and flavorless. There is but a speck of "crab meat" on one of the buns, and the crab meat has no flavor.

It delivers fast, and their cold dishes are amazing.

Delivery was fast, but the pork buns weren't that good and the cold sesame noodles were riddled with hot pepper. So disappointing.

Middle of the road Chinese food. I've ordered from a lot of the restaurants in the area...I still haven't seen anything really good. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, it came drowning in sauce (although it did not taste bad...it certainly wasn't appetizing). The fried rice wasn't hot by the time it was delivered and neither was the egg roll, which was also bland and had a strange texture. I'm going to keep looking for better...but all in all it wasn't the worst experience ever. Also I should note, the delivery person was rude despite being tipped over 30 percent!

Decent Chinese for the price. Food is always fresh and hot when you get it.

Food came quickly and was still hot when it came. There are many authentic Chinese dishes on the menu. However when the food came, the quality of the food was awful. Ordered BBQ pork and there were layers of oil and non-traditional sauce that was thick and oily and made the BBQ pork taste bad. Also tried ordering a traditional casserole and the ingredients were not fresh and had no taste. Ended up throwing the entire order away.
