On the New York restaurant scene, places come and go rapidly. A restaurant that has lasted for three years is an old-timer, so what about El Faro, which is more than seventy years old? El Faro (at Horatio and Greenwich in the Village) has been a favorite for years.

This cool and dark Spanish restaurant has had the same menu for years—all classics! Start with sautéed Chorizo sausage, then choose one of several magnificent main courses, like Mariscada in green sauce, which is scallops, clams and shrimp in a thick garlic sauce, flecked with parsley and served with saffron rice, as well many other fabulous Spanish dishes are also sure to satisfy.

Any of these accompanied by a pitcher of fresh sangria will transport you to heaven. Save room for natilla, a mind-blowing vanilla custard. El Faro is a New York Classic.
